2 x Victorian Silver Pepper Shakers, G. Unite 1886

This is a fun pair of Victorian Sterling Silver Pepper Shakers. The shakers are egg shaped and stand on three ball feet. They have no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The pepper shakers are made in Birmingham by highly regarded silversmiths George Unite & Sons and date to 1886. George Unite & James Hilliard founded the firm in 1825. After Hilliard withdrew in 1845, George continued under his own name before the firm became George Unite & Sons in 1865. The business remained under the management of the Unite family until 1897 when it was taken over by William Lyde who retained the name up until the late 1920s.
Condition is good and the pepper shakers remain perfectly usable. One foot has been slightly pushed into the body on one shaker but it still sits without rocking. The lids sit securely on their rims. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each shaker stands 3.7cm / 1.4ins high and is 2.8cm / 1.1ins in diameter. The pair together weigh in at 32.2g / 1.1oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the undersides of the bases, are a little rubbed but still nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the Gothic date letter m for 1886, the Queen Victoria duty mark and the G U makers' mark for George Unite & Sons.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
