2 x George V Silver Toast Racks, J. Dixon, 1913 George V Silver Toast Rack %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
This is a good quality pair of George V Sterling Silver Four Slice Toast Racks. The toast racks have a broadly oblong frame with a curve to each end and stand on four bracket feet. The dividers have upright sides, shoulders and rounded points to the arches. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The toast racks are made in Sheffield by renowned silversmiths James Dixon & Sons and date to just before the First World War in 1913. James Dixon founded his company with partner Thomas Smith around 1806. In the 1820s, Smith withdrew and was replaced by James Dixon's eldest son, followed by his other sons and the James Dixon & Sons name was established. The firm was highly successful and remained in business until the 1980s when it was absorbed into British Silverware.

Condition is very good with no dings, dents or damage and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after nearly 110 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

Each toast rack is 8.5cm / 3.3ins long, 5.4cm / 2.1ins wide and 8.8cm / 3.5ins high. The pair together weigh in at a very substantial 174g / 6.1oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the undersides of the frames, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the Gothic date letter v for 1913 and the distinctive J.D & S makers' mark for James Dixon & Sons.

Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the toast racks.
