Murano
Murano Glass has been made on the Venetian island of Murano for centuries. Their glassmakers developed and improved many technologies including crystalline glass, enamelled glass (smalto), goldstone, multicolored glass (millefiori), milk glass (lattimo) and imitation gemstones made of glass.
The Murano glassmakers have carried on these techniques and today produce chandeliers, figurines, art glass and tourist souvenirs. Murano glass was produced in great quantities in the 1950s and 1960s for export and for tourists. Today the island of Murano is home to lots of glass factories and art studios.
