Robert Mouseman Thompson
Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson (1876-1955) English craftsman and furnituremaker. His furniture is handmade in oak by craftsmen and are characterised by a trademark mouse carved on every piece. The mouse is thought to have first appeared around 1919 and was registered as a trademark in the 1930s. Mouseman furniture can be found in York Minster and numerous stately homes and churches. The company still flourishes today.
Robert trained many local craftsmen, many of whom created their own similar trademarks - known collectively as the Yorkshire critters.
These critters include: Gnomeman, Beaverman, Lizardman, Squirrelman, Acornman, Eagleman and many others.
