Loetz Glass
Loetz Glass. Producers of European art glass. Founded in the Czech Republic. This foremost Bohemian glass house produced primarily iridescent wares during its most successful period. After changing hands several times the glassworks in the southern Bohemian town of Klostermühle, today part of the Czech Republic, ended up in the hands of Susanne Loetz the widow of a glass maker. She eventually transferred the company – now called 'Johann Loetz Witwe' – to Maximilian von Spau, her Grandson. With the help of Eduard Prochaska he set about modernising the factory and introduced new, patented techniques and processes. Success followed at exhibitions and in 1897 von Spaun decided the Art Nouveau style was the way to go for Loetz Witwe. The next eight years were to be the most artistically significant and profitable period in the entire history of the company.
