James Shoolbred
James Shoolbred or Jas. Shoolbred & Co.
In the 1820s James Shoolbred and co (Jas Shoolbred) was originally a drapers in London selling textiles to the furniture trade. It expanded to designing, manufacturing and selling furniture by the 1880s.
It was one of the first great department stores in London. Located on Tottenham Court Road, a thriving centre for fashionable furniture shops from the 1860s. They began producing furniture in around 1870. It soon became a fashionable store selling quality furniture, textiles, carpets for the Victorian home.
The company ceased trading in 1931.
