Vintage Italian Silver Lidded Pot, c.1930s/40s

1 of 6
Here we have a very attractive Vintage Italian 800 Silver Two Handled Pot with Lid. Both the sides of the pot and the lid have engraved acanthus leaf decoration as do the c-scrolls of the handles, whilst the handle of the lid has faceted silver beads on it.
The pot is made in Italy and bears the lozenge shaped Italian silver mark that was in use between 1934 and 1968, which gives us a date range, but unfortunately the details inside the small lozenge have been rubbed through polishing and can no longer be deciphered to give us a specific maker and region. Acanthus leaf decoration, harking back to the classical Roman era, was very popular in Italy in the 1930s and 1940s and it seems likely that the pot is from this period.
This is a versatile piece, which may have originally been intended as a sugar bowl. Today it would look very attractive on a dressing table or as a trinket pot for antique jewellery items on a bedside table. It could hold nuts or other small snacks or could be used on the dining table for sauces or sugar.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents and just the very superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 70 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The pot is 11.6cm / 4.6ins across from handle to handle, 6.7cm / 2.6ins in diameter across the top and stands 7.5cm / 3ins high to the top of the finial. It weighs a substantial 97.5g / 3.4oz of solid silver.
The underside of the base has the Italian lozenge mark, sadly rubbed, and the 800 stamp for 800 / 1000 grade silver.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
