This is an elegant late Victorian Sterling Silver pierced Mustard Pot with its original blue glass liner. The pot is oval in shape and stands on four bun feet. The body has a pierced wavy line pattern all the way round and the lid is smooth.
The mustard pot is made in Birmingham by Miller Brothers and dates to 1900,the last full year of Queen Victoria's reign. Miller Brothers manufactured in Birmingham and had a retail premises in London's Newgate Street. They were active between the late 1890s and the early 1920s.
Condition is good with no dings or dents and just a small amount of salt corrosion around the inner rim, which is no surprise after 120 years of use. The blue glass liner has no chips or cracks. The lid fits flush and the hinge is in good working order. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The mustard pot is 7.1cm / 2.8ins long from rim to handle, 4.3cm / 1.7ins wide and stands 4.6cm / 1.8ins high. Without the blue glass liner it weighs in at a respectable 36.5g / 1.3oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the underside of the pot are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter a for 1900 and the M.Bros makers' mark for Miller Brothers.
