Victorian Gothic Silver Bowl, S. Smith, 1869

Here we have an attractive Victorian Sterling Silver Bowl decorated in the Gothic revival style. The bowl is round with a band of Gothic motifs around the upper part of the body. There is a monogram on the lower part of the body made up of the letters F, C, I (or J) & P.
The bowl is a well made piece in a good gauge of silver by S. Smith & Son of London and dates to 1869. S. Smith & Son was a partnership of Stephen Smith Snr and Stephen Smith Jnr that operated from premises in Covent Garden from 1865 until around 1890, Stephen Smith Snr having previously been in partnership with William Nicholson since 1850.
Condition is generally good, with just a couple of very shallow bruises to the body and the regular wear that has to be expected in an item that is over 150 years old. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The bowl is 12.2cm / 4.8ins in diameter across the top rim and stands 5cm / 2ins high. It weighs a substantial 158.7g / 5.6oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, low down on the body of the bowl, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter o for 1869, the Queen Victoria duty mark and the S.S makers' mark for S. Smith & Son.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the bowl.
