Silver Whisky Decanter Label, Harrods, 1936
This is a stylish Sterling Silver Decanter Label for Whisky (no e, so definitely Scotch!). The label is bean shaped with the word whisky stylishly engraved across the front. The chain is quite short so this would be ideal for a noggin or small decanter.
The decanter label was made in London by the world famous department store Harrods and dates to 1936. The mark for Harrods is RWB for Sir Richard Woodman Burbidge who was chairman of Harrods, succeeding his father in 1917 and up until his death in 1945. Harrods' silver workshops were at this time located in Trevor Square, across the road from the main Harrods store, and there was also a small silverware showroom there. The Harrods name was always a guarantee of good quality pieces.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings, dents or damage and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The decanter label is 6.8cm / 2.6ins from the top of the chain to the bottom of the label and 3.7cm / 1.4ins wide. It weighs in at 3.6g / 0.13oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the back of the label, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter A for 1936 and the R W B makers' mark for Sir Richard Woodman Burbidge of Harrods Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £5 by Royal Mail Tracked 24.
