Silver Pepper Pot, Edward Barnard & Sons, 1918

This is a super George V Sterling Silver Pepper Pot of the very highest quality. It is made in London by Edward Barnard & Sons Ltd and dates to 1918.
Edward Barnard & Sons Ltd has a history that dates back to 1680 when the firm was established by Anthony Nelme. Through marriage the Barnard family became involved in the silversmiths in 1773 and took control in 1829, renaming the firm Edward Barnard & Sons. Their most celebrated creation is the stunning silver gilt Lily Font from 1840, which forms part of the Crown Jewels in the Tower of London and has been used for Royal christenings ever since it was commissioned by Queen Victoria & Prince Albert.
On a somewhat less grand scale, this pepper pot is nonetheless a very fine piece of silverware. As you would expect it is made from a heavy gauge of silver. Condition is good with only the minimal wear you would expect after just over 100 years. The inside is clean and the pepper pot would make a very sophisticated addition to any dining table today or would enhance any collection.
The pepper pot stands 9.8cm high and is 4.6cm in diameter at its widest point. It weighs a very substantial 49.8g of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the side of the pot and the inside rim of the lid are a bit rubbed but can still be deciphered. They are the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter "c" for 1918 and the EB & S Ld makers' mark for Edward Barnard & Sons Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £8 by Royal Mail Special Delivery.
