Silver Mustard Spoon, G'smiths & S'smiths, 1906
This is a top quality Edwardian Sterling Silver Mustard Spoon in the classic Old English pattern. The spoon has a crest of a bird holding a banner engraved at the top of the stem, which is the family crest of the Ricardo family of Gloucester.
The mustard spoon was made in London by renowned silversmiths The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company and dates to 1906. Founded in 1880 by William Gibson and John Langman, the company occupied a famous showroom at 112 Regent Street where they served a high end clientele with goods of the very finest quality. They manufactured at Clerkenwell in London and the Regent Works in Sheffield. In 1952 they amalgamated with their Regent Street neighbours Garrard & Co.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents and just the minimal superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 115 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The mustard spoon is 10.8cm / 4.25ins long and weighs in at 10.1g / 0.36oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter l for 1906 and the G & S Co Ltd makers' mark for The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co Ltd.
