Here we have for sale, this gorgeous and stylish set of six early 1930s Art Deco hallmarked sterling silver Mappin & Webb Ltd coffee spoons. The handles are very reminiscent of the designs produced for Mappin & Webb by Keith Murray, who was famous for his simple yet stylish use of lines.

Brief history of Mappin & Webb

Established in 1775, Mappin and Webb are one of the finest silversmiths in the world their name is synonymous with quality, beauty and fine workmanship. The company gained their first Royal Warrant from Queen Victoria in 1897 and are still in business today.

Condition Report

The spoons are in excellent condition for their 85 year age, there is age related wear such as surface scratches and minor tarnish marks, but look unused with no splits, dents or damage, an overall splendid example.

The box is in fair/good condition, the clasp on the box is full functional, the faux silk interior is in good order with only minor staining on the top left, the area where the spoons are held is quite worn and slightly stained but hold the spoons securely. The exterior is worn but is still in sound condition, please check the photos. The box is protects the spoons and presents them nicely. The box and spoons are in overall very good order.

These spoons represent the Art Deco movement, this is evident in the geometric pattern on the reverse and the bold lines on the tip of each handle as well as the elongated triangular shape of each spoon. These stylistic characteristics create a stylish, refined and original Art Deco 1930s finish, the workmanship is just superb.

The spoons and the original box exude the elegance and glamour of the 1930s interwar era.
