Pair Victorian Silver Napkin Rings, London, 1891

This is a handsome Cased Pair of Victorian Sterling Silver Napkin Rings. The circular rings are decorated with overlapping floral roundels to either side of blank round cartouches. The cylindrical case has a cream satin lining in the lid and a blue velvet tray holding the two rings.
The napkin rings were made in London by high end silversmiths Johnson, Walker & Tolhurst and date to 1891. Founded in 1849, Johnson, Walker & Tolhurst were manufacturing and retail jewellers and silversmiths. Originally based in the City of London, they later moved to Burlington Arcade off Piccadilly and this is the location that they are most associated with. They produced and sold very high quality pieces and numbered Winston Churchill and several Indian Maharajahs amongst their customers.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents and only the lightest superficial surface wear. They seem to have had little use for the last 134 years. There are a few scuffs to the outside of the box but it still looks smart and the hinges and clasp are in good working order. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each napkin ring is 4.4cm / 1.7ins in diameter and 2.5cm / 0.98ins deep. The two together, uncased, weigh in at a respectable 55.9g / 1.97oz of solid Sterling Silver and the cased set weighs 94.0g / 3.31oz.
The hallmarks, on the outside of each ring, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter Q for 1891 and the W.W over B.T makers' mark for Walter Walker and Brownfield Tolhurst of Johnson, Walker & Tolhurst.
