Pair of Irish Silver Cauldron Salts Dublin 1812
This unusual pair of silver cauldron salts were made in Dublin. They are clearly marked with the date letter for 1812 and a maker's mark for Richard Sawyer (senior), who died in 1812. This mark was in use from 1805 to his death. They have detachable gilded bowls. Each bowl has a threaded prong which passes through the base of the outer case and is secured by a nut. The outer cases are decorated with floral repoussé work. Each has one vacant cartouche and a second which has, at some time, had a family crest. The crests are no longer decipherable. The salts stand on three paw feet. They are 7.6cm in diameter and are in very good condition overall.
