Mid-Century Silver Egg Cup, David Lawrence, 1965
This is a distinctive Mid-Century Sterling Silver Egg Cup with Gilt interior. The egg cup has a circular base, beehive shaped pedestal stem and rolled top rim. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The egg cup was made in Birmingham by David Lawrence Silverware and dates to 1965. David Lawrence registered his mark at the Birmingham assay office in 1963. Throughout the 1960s he produced a range of distinctively modern pieces for the home and the table whilst maintaining the heritage of high quality Birmingham craftsmanship.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. The gilding is in good condition. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The egg cup is 5.4cm / 2.1ins high and 4.7cm / 1.8ins in diameter. It weighs in at a very respectable 29.1g / 1oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, just below the rim, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter Q for 1965 and the D L makers' mark for David Lawrence Silverware.
