Mid-Century Silver Condiment Set, Viner's, 1966
Here we have a good quality Mid-Century Sterling Silver 3 Piece Condiment Set. The set is round with panelled sides and consists of a salt shaker, a pepper shaker and a mustard pot complete with its original blue glass liner and mustard spoon.
The condiment set is made in Sheffield by well known silversmiths Viner's Ltd and dates to 1966. Founded around 1901 by Adolphe Viener, who later changed his name to Viner, the firm was a very successful company producing a wide range of silver and silver plate up until the end of the 1960s. They struggled in the seventies and finally ceased trading in 1985. The brand name is now owned by US firm Oneida.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents in the silverware and no chips or cracks in the blue glass liner. There is just the superficial surface wear that you would expect in items of this age and usage. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The pepper shaker is 10.5cm / 4.1ins tall and 3.6cm / 1.4ins in diameter, the salt shaker is 9.8cm / 3.8ins tall and 3.6cm / 1.4ins in diameter, the mustard pot is 7.8cm / 3ins from rim to handle, 6cm / 2.3ins in diameter and stands 5.3cm / 2.1ins high. The mustard spoon is 6.9cm long. The weight of the set, without the blue glass liner, is a very substantial 169.8g / 6oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on all three pieces and the spoon are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter Y for 1966 and the EV makers' mark for Emile Viner of Viner's Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the set.
