Mid-Century Silver Cake Slice, Garrard & Co, 1972
Here we have a superb quality Mid-Century Sterling Silver Cake Slice in a variant of the King's Pattern. The cake slice is made by world famous goldsmiths, silversmiths and jewellers Garrard & Co in Sheffield and dates to 1972. Garrard & Co were the official Crown Jewellers from 1843 to 2007 with responsibility for the upkeep of the state regalia in the Tower of London and pieces in the monarch's personal possession.
As you would expect from Garrard & Co, this is a very well made piece in a heavy gauge of silver and has a distinctly chunky feel in the hand, whilst still being very well balanced. The handle is in King's Pattern shape but with slightly different decoration to the classic King's Pattern. The blade is in a plain leaf shape. There is no personalisation of any kind and this would be wonderful for serving up slices of wedding cake or for any other special celebration.
Condition is very good with no dings, dents or damage and only the superficial wear you would expect after nearly 50 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The cake slice is 25cm / 9.8" long, 5.2cm / 2.1" wide across the blade and weighs a very substantial 129.2g / 4.46oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the underside of the handle are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter "E" for 1972 and the G & Co Ld in a triangle makers' mark for Garrard & Co.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery Parcel Post, which includes cover for the value of the cake slice.
Overseas customers please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
