Large Silver Sugar Caster, Synyer & Beddoes, 1928
This is a very substantial George V Sterling Silver Sugar Caster from the 1920s. The caster is made in Birmingham by renowned silversmiths Synyer & Beddoes and dates to 1928. Harry Synyer & Charles Beddoes formed their partnership in Birmingham in the 1890s and operated from premises in Vyse Street up until the late 1940s. They produced an extensive range of high quality tableware and personal items.
This sugar caster is a superb example of Synyer & Beddoes work. The foot is stepped with a bulbous body above it tapering to the pierced caster lid, which is beautifully decorated in a fern pattern.
The caster is in very good condition with only the most minimal wear from over 90 years of use. The inside is as clean as the outside and this could be used straightaway as a sugar caster today or would make a great addition to a collection. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
This is a large caster, standing 21.3cm / 8.5" high and having a diameter of 7.4cm / 3" at its widest part. It's a very well made piece in a good gauge of silver and weighs a very substantial 176.1g / 6.21oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the side of the body are well struck and clear to read. They are the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "D" for 1928 and the distinctive SB makers' mark for Synyer & Beddoes.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery Parcel Post, which includes cover for the value of the item.
