Large Antique 3-Draw Telescope, Irish, Brass

Our Stock # 25438
This is a large antique 3-draw telescope. An Irish, terrestrial or astronomical instrument in enamelled brass and leather, dating to the Edwardian period, circa 1910.
Perfect for bird watching, landscape appreciation, wildlife, or maritime observation. Equally suitable for observing the night sky.
Striking and substantial example of Northern Irish optical instrumentation
Crafted in brass with a black enamel finish, exhibiting a wonderfully time-worn patina
Primary barrel dressed in aged Oxblood red leather, richly textured and evocative
Fitted with a 55mm primary objective lens, offering generous light intake
Sliding sun hood integrates a hinged lens cap for added practicality
Smooth, firm draw action across the three brass barrels – well-engineered and intact
Engraved to the rear barrel with 'J. Lizars, Belfast' – a Scottish and Belfast based optical specialist
A superb statement piece for collectors of Edwardian instruments, or maritime and scientific antiques
Fascinating to muse that this telescope may have gazed upon the Titanic as she left Harland & Wolff
Supplied with a London Fine oak and brass 'Captain's Stand' for display
With its bold presence and tactile charm, this large antique telescope from Belfast blends technical quality with decorative appeal. A fine addition to a study, observatory, or gentleman’s library. Delivered ready to enjoy.
