Indian Kashmir Painted Lacquer Surahi / Water Bottle
A Fine Antique Wood and Lacquered Surahi or Water Bottle.
Indian / Kashmiri and dating to the mid 19th Century.
This is a lovely and fine quality example, the wooden body of elegant form, with a long flaring neck, complete with the original stopper and bud finial.
This piece displays a wonderful lacquered and polychrome painted finish. The level of detail is exquisite and features scenes from the Shahnama together with a more unusual design of a European or Colonial officer being entertained by a nautch girl and musicians.
Highly decorative and original with a stunning old patina, this is a very worthwhile addition to any Kashmiri themed collection or Indian painted / lacquer ware more generally.
Further detailed photographs are available upon request.
