Hester Bateman Solid Cast Silver Sugar Tongs %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
Very early (1768) and rare, Hester Bateman cast solid silver sugar tongs. Hester Bateman was the first woman silversmith, she registered her mark in London in 1761. Silver cast sugar tongs although very pretty and attractive where not as robust as the solid arm models and were therefore only produced for a short period, not many have survived. this set of tongs has a professional repair to one arm. There is a monogram LRH in the crown written in script.
