George VI Silver Tea Strainer, Sheffield, 1945 George VI 1940s Silver %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
This is an attractive George VI Sterling Silver Tea Strainer. The strainer has a circular pierced bowl with two hooks to go over the rim of the tea cup. The threaded stem has a pierced top with a foliate design. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The tea strainer was made in Sheffield by H H Silverware and dates to 1945. Harry Hayes registered his mark in Birmingham in 1896. He produced a range of tableware, smoking accessories and small items for personal use into the early years of the 20th century. After his death the firm traded as H H Silverware and relocated to Sheffield at the start of World War II. They remained in business into the late 1960s.

Condition is extremely good, with no dings, dents or damage and just the minimal superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The tea strainer is 14.8cm / 5.8ins long with the bowl being 5.7cm / 2.2ins in diameter and 1.7cm / 0.67ins deep. It weighs in at a very respectable 47.4g / 1.67oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter C for 1945 and the Gothic H H makers' mark for H H Silverware.
