George V Silver Toast Rack, Sheffield, 1911 George V Silver Toast Rack %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
This is a smart and practical George V Sterling Silver Four Slice Toast Rack. The toast rack is broadly rectangular in shape with high pointed arch dividers and a lozenge shaped handle. It stands on four bracket feet.

The toast rack is made in Sheffield by silversmiths Harrison Brothers & Howson and dates to 1911. James & Henry Harrison and James Howson bought the firm of Thomas Sansom & Sons in 1847 and renamed it Harrison Brothers & Howson. They manufactured in Sheffield and had showrooms in both Hatton Garden and off Regent Street in London. The company passed through various members of the Harrison and Howson families before finally being taken over by Viner's in 1959.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 110 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The toast rack is 8.1cm / 3.2ins long, 5.2cm / 2ins wide and stands 10.7cm / 4.2ins high. It weighs a very respectable 60.0g / 2.1oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the underside of the base, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter t for 1911 and the G H makers' mark for George Howson of Harrison Brothers & Howson.

Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the toast rack.
