George V Silver Photo Frame, Birmingham, 1923
This is a smart George V Sterling Silver Photo Frame. The easel style upright frame is oblong with a concave silver front and ebonised wood back. The visible picture size is 5ins by 3ins.
The photo frame was made in Birmingham by Deykin & Harrison and dates to 1923. William Deykin and Walter Harrison registered their first mark at the Birmingham assay office in 1895. Operating from premises in Jennens Row, they produced a very broad range of silverware for use in the study, on the table, for personal use and for around the home. They remained in business up until the late 1930s.
Condition is very good, with just a couple of tiny dings in the silver and the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 100 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The frame is 15.1cm / 5.9ins high, 10.1cm / 3.9ins wide and 8.5cm / 3.3ins deep with the strut fully extended. It weighs 141.5g / 5oz.
The hallmarks, on the left hand side of the frame, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter y for 1923 and the Gothic style D & H for Deykin & Harrison.
