George V Silver Pepper Shaker, Birmingham, 1914
This is a charming small George V Sterling Silver Pepper Shaker. The shaker is lighthouse shaped with a bulbous base, flat bottom and line decoration. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The pepper shaker was made in Birmingham by Harold Bushell & Co and dates to 1914. Harold Bushell established his firm in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter around 1900. They made a range of domestic and tableware including some fine photo frames. The firm was fairly short lived and seems to have ceased trading around the start of the First World War.
Condition is good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after 110 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The pepper shaker is 5.2cm / 2ins high and 3.7cm / 1.4ins in diameter at its widest point. It weighs in at 10g / 0.35oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the upper part of the body, are somewhat rubbed but can still be read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter p for 1914 and the H.B & Co makers' mark for Harold Bushell & Co.
