George V Silver Jubilee Spoon & Fork Set, 1934
This is a fine quality George V Sterling Silver Spoon & Fork Set celebrating the King's Silver Jubilee in their original case. The outside of the case is stamped in silver with Royal Jubilee 1910-1935. The spoon & fork themselves have on the finials the profiles of King George V and Queen Mary facing left with a crown above them and a banner beneath saying 1910-1935. Below these is a GM monogram. All in all this is a very superior Royal souvenir.
The spoon and fork set are made in Sheffield by Thomas Bradbury & Sons and date to 1934. The Sheffield dates changed in July (until 1975), so the 1934 letter r would have been in use from July 1934 to July 1935, well into the Jubilee year.
Whilst the set clearly has been used, condition is good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 85 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoon is 13.7cm / 5.4ins long and the fork is 14.6cm / 5.7ins long. The pair together, unboxed, weigh in at a respectable 48.7g / 1.7oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the underside of the stems are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter r for 1934, the George & Mary Silver Jubilee mark and the T.B & S maker's mark for Thomas Bradbury & Sons Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the set.
