George V Silver Christening Set, W. Suckling, 1925

This is a nicely presented George V Sterling Silver Christening Set in its original case. The set consists of a knife, fork and spoon with a milled thread pattern along the lengths of the stems and around both sides of the knife handle. The blade of the knife is also solid silver, which is often not the case. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind, making them very suitable as a gift today.
The set is made by William Suckling Ltd in Birmingham and dates to 1925 for the spoon and fork and 1926 for the knife (this was common practice when retailers would make up sets from stock they were holding). William Suckling founded his firm in the mid-1890s. They became William Suckling Ltd in 1922 and remained in business until the late 1960s. They are best known for their good quality tableware and flatware.
Although they have seen some use, condition is very good, with just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 90 years of good service. The case has a couple of small scuff marks but is generally in very good condition and the hinges and clasp are in full working order. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The knife is 18cm / 7.1ins long, the fork is 14.2cm / 5.6ins long and the spoon is 13.6cm / 5.3ins long. The set of three together, unboxed, weighs in at a substantial 70.8g / 2.5oz.
The hallmarks on the heel of the fork, the underside of the bowl on the spoon and on the blade of the knife are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter A for 1925 or B for 1926 and the S Ld in conjoined circles makers' mark for William Suckling Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery Parcel Post, which includes cover for the value of the set.
