George IV Solid Silver Sauce Ladle Edinburgh 1820
This superb quality, George IV, solid silver, Scottish, sauce / gravy ladle is single struck in the Kings Pattern design, and has a large oval bowl.
There is no monogram but there is a crest of ‘Dog’, I think which is included in a photograph.
It is in excellent condition for 196 years old, with no dents, damage or repairs that I can see.
It measures approximately 17.1 cm long, with the bowl 6 cm x 4.9 cm (across the widest points) and weighs 60.8 grams / 1.95 troy oz.
The assay office is Edinburgh, with the head of George III as duty stamp, the date letter ‘o’ for 1820 and the maker’s mark for John & William Howden there is also another maker’s mark, stamped ‘WH’ in script, I wondered if this may be for William Howden, the son.
A superb, true antique ladle to own and use! AgAu Antiques & Jewellery offer an extensive range of both 9ct and 18ct Yellow and White Gold, and Platinum jewellery, ranging from the 1890's thought to the 1980's in a wide range of styles - old and new - at competitive prices, which are not readily available in high street shops. Each piece of jewellery is carefully examined then catalogued and photographed by our specialist photographers.
