George III Silver Mustard Pot, William Abdy, 1794
Here we have a fine quality George III Sterling Silver Mustard Pot. The pot is oval in shape with a blue glass liner, a scroll handle and a fan shaped thumb rest. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The mustard pot is made in London by William Abdy II and dates to 1794. William Abdy I founded the business around 1769 and after his death in 1790, his son William Abdy II took over and remained in business up until around 1810.
Condition is good with just the surface wear that you would expect after over 225 years of use. The hinge of the lid is in good working order and the blue glass liner has no chips or cracks. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The mustard pot is 10cm / 3.9ins from rim to handle, 5cm / 1.9ins across and stands 7.5cm / 2.8ins high. Without the blue glass liner, it weighs in at a substantial 76.9g / 2.7oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the underside of the base are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterlimng Silver, the crowned leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter t for 1794, the George III duty mark and the W.A makers' mark for William Abdy II.
