George III Silver Etui Box, Thomas Willmore, 1802 George III Georgian Silver %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
Here we have a charming George III Sterling Silver Etui Box. The box is octagonal with a hinged lid. Both sides are engraved with leaf patterns surrounding blank square cartouches. An Etui is a small case or box usually used for holding pins, needles, thread and other sewing accessories.

The etui was made in Birmingham by Thomas Willmore and dates to 1802. Thomas Willmore established his firm in Birmingham around 1790 and remained in business into the early 1800s. He primarily made small pieces such as snuff boxes, vinaigrettes, etuis, nutmeg graters and trinket boxes.

The etui box has clearly seen some use but overall condition is good with just a couple of tiny dings and a pinhole in one corner plus the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 220 years of good service. The hinge and clasp are in good working order. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The etui is 3.7cm high, 2.5cm wide and 1.7cm deep. It weighs in at 10.9g of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the underside of the base, are a little rubbed but still legible. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter e for 1802, the George III duty mark and the T W makers' mark for Thomas Willmore.

Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the etui.
