George II Silver Sauce Ladle, Isaac Callard, 1753

Here we have a fine quality George II Sterling Silver Sauce Ladle. The ladle has an arching stem and a shell bowl. A crest of a bear's arm holding a torch is engraved at the top of the stem.
The sauce ladle was made in London by silversmith Isaac Callard and dates to 1753. Isaac Callard registered his first mark at Goldsmith’s Hall in London in 1726. He was an important silversmith of Huguenot descent who specialised in spoons and flatware. He had a long and successful career right up to his death in 1770. Isaac’s son Paul Callard registered his own mark in 1752 also specialising in spoons and flatware.
Condition is very good, with just a couple of truly tiny dings in the bowl plus the superficial surface wear that you would anticipate after over 270 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The ladle is 18.5cm /7.3ins long and 5.7cm / 2.2ins wide across the bowl. It weighs in at a very respectable 61.5g / 2.17oz / 1.98toz of solid Sterling Silver.
As you would expect on flatware from ths era, the sauce ladle is bottom struck and the hallmarks are somewhat distorted but can still be read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crowned leopard's head assay mark for London, the slightly strange date letter s for 1753 and the I C below two stars makers' mark for Isaac Callard.
Shipping in the UK is £12.50 by Royal MailSpecial Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the sauce ladle.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
