Fine Quality Japanese Cloisonne Enamel Koro Censer

AUGUST SALE. REDUCED PRICES UNTIL THE END OF THE MONTH!
A Very Fine Quality Antique Japanese Cloisonne Koro or Incense Burner.
Dating to around the late 19th Century (late Meiji era) and probably originating from Kyoto.
This really is a stunning example and benefits further from being presented in exceptional condition.
The copper body, of slightly compressed spherical form, decorated in the round with a design of five exotic ho-ho birds (or phoenix) in flight amid numerous floral and foliate scroll motifs. The shoulder with a band of ten formal lappets, each inset with a white chrysanthemum head, sprouting ten petals, all reserved against a glittering 'tea-dust' coloured ground. The lower section with further, formal lappets in white, pale and deep blue, enclosing a black underside, inset with tight cloison 'whorls' and further sylalised flower heads. The delicate lid, pierced in the pattern of chrysanthemum petals and affixed with a beautifully-fashioned copper flower bud finial.
The whole supported on beautifully-shaped tripod copper feet.
This is an exquisite pot, very finely worked and showcasing a range of cloisonne techniques and different styled enamel pastes.
