Edwardian Silver Mustard Spoon, W.H. Sparrow, 1903
Here we have an elegant Edwardian Sterling Silver Mustard Spoon in the "Grecian" pattern. The mustard spoon is made by William Henry Sparrow in Birmingham and dates to 1903. William Sparrow established himself in Spencer Street in the heart of Birmingham's famous Jewellery Quarter around 1902. He specialised in good quality small items and is particularly known for his watch cases. He remained in business until around 1920.
This mustard spoon is in the Grecian pattern, which features a gadrooned rim around a waisted upper stem with a circular drop at the top. It was introduced in the mid-nineteenth century and exhibited at the Great Exhibition. The spoon is perfectly usable today or would make a good addition to any collection.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents and only the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after nearly 120 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoon is 7.2cm / 2.8" long and weighs a respectable 4.5g / 0.16oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the underside of the bowl are a little rubbed but still easy to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "d" for 1903 and the W.H.S makers' mark for William Henry Sparrow.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
