Edwardian Silver Mustard Spoon, J. Rodgers, 1905
This is a good quality Edwardian Sterling Silver Mustard Spoon in the classic Old English pattern. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The spoon is made in Sheffield by silversmiths Joseph Rodgers & Sons and dates to 1905. Joseph Rodgers entered his first Sheffield mark in 1843 with the firm becoming Joseph Rodgers & Sons around 1862. They were a very successful firm making a wide range of silverware and were still in business until at least the late 1960s.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents, no salt corrosion and just the most minimal of superficial surface wear that has to be expected after 117 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The mustard spoon is 10.2cm / 4ins long and weighs a respectable 12.7g / 0.45oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are well struck and very clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter n for 1905 and the J.R makers' mark plus the trademark star and cross stamp for Joseph Rodgers & Sons.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
