Edwardian Silver Mug, Walker & Hall, 1908

Here we have a fine quality Edwardian Sterling Silver Mug. The mug is of upright cylindrical form and is extensively decorated with embossed flowers and foliage all the way round the body with a blank cartouche front and centre. The scrolling handle is also highly decorated. This would make an ideal Christening gift, retirement gift or for any special occasion.
The mug was made in Sheffield by famous silversmiths Walker & Hall and dates to 1908. Walker & Hall are one of the great names of English silverware. The firm was founded by George Walker in 1845 with Henry Hall joining in 1853 to form Walker & Hall. Hugely successful and very highly regarded they remained in business until they were merged with Mappin & Webb and Elkington & Co to form British Silverware in 1963.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just a very slight flaw on the top rim plus the overall superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 115 years of good service. It seems likely that this has seen little or no use and been kept as a treasured gift or possession. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The mug is 9.4cm / 3.7ins from rim to handle, 6cm / 2.3ins across the body and stands 8.5cm / 3.3ins high. It weighs in at a substantial 123.4g / 4.35oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, just below the rim near the handle, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter q for 1908 and the distinctive W & H in a pennant makers' mark for Walker & Hall. The underside of the base has the Walker & Hall retail stamp and pennant trademark.
Shipping in the UK is £12.50 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the mug.
