Art Nouveau Silver Ring Tree & Tray W. Hutton 1905
Here we have an exquisite Edwardian Art Nouveau Sterling Silver Ring Tray & Tray. The tree is made in Birmingham by renowned silversmiths William Hutton & Sons Ltd and dates to 1905. William Hutton founded his company in Birmingham in 1800 and quickly established a reputation as a silversmith of high quality. The firm remained under the management of four generations of the Hutton family up until its final closure in 1930, when it was taken over by James Dixon & Sons.
The ring tree has a simple central stem with four hooks spiralling up around it to hold your rings. The tray is circular with a threaded edge and classic sinuous Art Nouveau decoration at north, south, east and west. It would look beautiful on any dressing table, be it period or modern.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected in an item of this age and usage. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The ring tree & tray is 10.9cm / 4.25" in diameter and stands 8.2cm / 3.25" high. It weighs a substantial 84.4g / 2.98oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the edge of the flat surface of the tray are a little rubbed but still easy to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "f" for 1905 and the instantly recognisable makers' mark for William Hutton & Sons Ltd. On the underside there is also a registered design number 453388, which dates the design also to 1905.
Shipping in the UK is £11 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the item.
