Art Deco Sterling Silver Chainmail Evening Bag
This lovely sterling silver mesh evening bag has a nice shape and is of a larger size. It has an arched top and a decorative mesh fringe along the bottom. The bag retains its original silver chain. The bag frame is hallmarked on the inside with .925 and the London import mark and date letter for 1926. It is also marked with what we believe to be the maker / importer's stamp for George Stockwell for Stockwell & Co. Ltd. lovely Every link in the chain handle is marked .925. The bag and chain have a combined weight of approx. 200g (6.4ozt).
Condition: Overall in very good condition with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some slight surface scratching and wear as might be expected. There are a few small holes in the mesh, including just below the hinge at either side.
The approx. measurements are as follows:
Bag - 20cm long (not including chain) 22.5cm wide (across bottom), 14cm wide (across hinges). Further images are available. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any queries. Viewing is welcome, but please contact us before travelling as we are only open by appointment.
