Art Deco Silver Compact, R, Davies & Co, 1946
Here we have a top quality large Art Deco Sterling Silver Powder Compact in its original dark red felt pouch. The compact has circular engine turned decoration on both top and bottom and the initials BES are elegantly engraved in the cartouche on the top. Inside, the mirror is set into the lid and these a cover for the powder compartment. When this is opened the original sifter screen is in place with the powder tray beneath.
The compact is made R. Davies & Co in Birmingham and dates to 1946.
Condition is very good with just the minimal superficial surface wear that you would expect in a vintage compact. It has clearly been well looked after and spent most of its time safely inside its felt cover. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The compact is quite a large one and is 8.4cm / 3.3ins in diameter and 0.8cm / 0.3ins deep. Without the sifter screen & pouch, it weighs a very substantial 131.3g / 4.6oz but this does of course include the mirror.
The hallmarks on the inner cover are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter W for 1946 and the R D & Co makers' mark for R. Davies & Co.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the compact.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
