Art Deco Silver 3 Piece Manicure Set, B'ham, 1927
This is a stylish Art Deco Sterling Silver Handled 3 Piece Manicure Set. The set consists of a nail file, a nail cleaner and a cuticle pusher. Each piece has a Sterling Silver handle with engine turned decoration and a blank circular cartouche. The uppers are made of steel.
The manicure set was made in Birmingham by silversmith William Devenport and dates to 1927. William Devenport founded his firm in the early 1890s in the heart of Birmingham's famous Jewellery Quarter. Quickly successful, the company produced a huge range of silverware. After William's death in the early 1930s, the company became William Devenport & Co and remained in business into the early 1950s.
Condition is very good, with just a couple of tiny dings in the handles and the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 95 years of good service. The steel uppers are in equally good condition and the set could continue to be used for many years. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each piece is 11.2cm / 4.4ins long and all together the set weighs 36.5g / 1.29oz.
The hallmarks on the handles are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter C for 1927 and the W.D makers' mark for William Devenport.
Shipping in the UK is £4.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
