Art Nouveau solid silver cigarette case FRENCH 1800s ADOLPHE FRONTIN
A fully hallmarked antique of great charm made in the late 1800s. This solid silver case is made from high grade .950 silver. Nineteenth century French silversmiths are famous for the exquisite allegories, fables & illustrations adorning their pieces. This is typical of the genre & the work is of a very high standard. The master silversmith Adolphe Frontin has created an objet d'art. The piece is so finely wrought that no scratches or fingerprints can be seen on the case. The whole exterior case takes on the theme of Art Nouveau Spectacular Naturalism. The molded edges give the feel that you are handling something natural & on the whole exterior case - every millimeter is adorned with superb skill. The background silver is textured & repousse Lilly of the valley, daisy form flowers, leaves & foliage set the perfect scene - a butterfly flying over them. The molded edges continue onto the front of the case & form an elaborate cartouche with a monogram which is so ornate it is impossible to decipher. The base is no less ornate with repousse floral motifs & scroll work. Perhaps the most astonishing thing about this case is the vermeil interior which is & looks unused. All clasps & hinges work perfectly. The case is without damage or dings & it is in superb condition.
The antique silver case measures 3 1/4" X almost 2 1/2" & weighs 61.9 grams.
