This is a Dutch 0.833 Silver snuff box in a quatrefoil form for ease of handling and pinching snuff. Engraved decoration to the top, coin edge milling on the sides and a hand engraved cross-hatched pattern on the base.
The box lid outer is marked with Minerva’s Head, which has a letter “M” on it, this stands for Maastricht.
Inside the box is the makers mark of J.K. with a Cedilla under the K, I cannot find the makers name. Also inside is the mark of a lion in a hexagon which is the quality mark for 833 silver.
On the rim of the base is the date letter mark for 1862.
Engraved on inside of the lid is “J d B”
Dimensions are 60mm. x 50mm. x 20mm.
Weight 21.8 grams.
