20th century Bronze of Female Nude
A solid cast art bronze study on a marble base of a female nude in a gymnastic pose. The observance of life form is excellent, the face hands, feet all are crisp and finely detailed. It is a female nude study , but we would suggest it is very much in the style of the early 20th century art deco tradition rather than the later 20th century emphasis on erotica.
It is a fascinating tabletop bronze sculpture , there is no signature nor foundry mark in order to provide details of the original artist. There are no references to this model in contemporary catalogues and the patina , quality of casting and general form suggests an early to mid 20th century item. It is certainly not one of the mass produced and copied figures.
The figure is solid on a veined black marble base 223 mm long by 79mm wide by 28mm high. the bronze plinth is slightly smaller and the figure has a height of 155 mm and a length of approx 190mm. (the piece weighs 3.3 kg)
We have valued this piece as a quality mid 20th century bronze art work without provenance. It is based on quality and aesthetic value rather than attribution. If you wish to ask any questions please dont hesitate to contact us. Buchanan and Laing Galleries are a private client business. Appointments can be made by arrangement via email.
