19th Century Silver Doll\'s Table & chairs
This intricately decorated miniature furniture would grace any collection.
Silver doll\'s furniture with fine repoussé decoration, consisting of a table and two-chair set. Late 19th Century, probably German, possibly Dutch - matching \'pseudo\' marks, test as silver (probably 800 standard). Table 7x4x4cm, chair 6x2.5x2cm. Weight 59g
The table is decorated with a horseman in the foreground, a second horseman, a man with a walking stick, a large tree and varous buildings in the background icluding a church, houses and a windmill. It has a scalloped frieze decorated with scrollwork. Its four legs and crossed stretcher are formed in a twist pattern. Each chair has a grotesque mask to both seat and back, which are further decorated with scrollwork. Their cresting rails are surmounted by a cherub head with spread wings and they have cast, solid, square, reeded legs.
Each piece of the set has matching \'pseudo\' silver marks. I have not been able to identify them specifically, but they are probably from Hanau (Germany), but possibly from Holland (If anybody recognises the marks from the photos - II would welcome the information).
These \'pseudo\' silver marks were unregistered marks used to imitate the antique, mostly in the 19th and early 20th Century - most famously in Hanau (Germany). See 925.com for a good explanation.
I trade in small silver, jewellery and objets d'art. I sell primarily at antiques fairs and in cabinets in Christique Antique Centre in Dorking. I try to find unusual and interesting stock and like to keep turning it over, so I can buy more. Postage and packing are free within the UK - unless explicitly stated otherwise. All fine jewellery will be supplied with a box. If the box/case is described in the text, it will be the one photographed, but may not be if it is not mentioned explicitly. I keep hardly any stock at home, if you want to buy something and need it urgently, I will usually do it the next day, but it may take me some time to respond if you need extra photographs and/or details about the piece that I do not have to hand, as I typically visit the antiques centre just once a week. If you don't see what you're looking for - feel free to send an enquiry via the site. I have only been able to list a portion of my stock.
I will always mention anything that materially affects the aesthetic or function of a piece, but will not attempt to describe what I consider to be normal for age and use. Please use the photographs as well as you can and I’m always happy to answer specific questions.
