1920s Ancient Order Froth Blowers Silver Cufflinks
Superb! - These are a wonderful example of the sought after Ancient Order of Froth Blowers Silver Cufflinks - top quality with all their enamelling intact - superb! - fully stamped to the rear, these date to the 1920/30 era.
The Ancient Order of Froth-Blowers was a humorous English charitable organisation "to foster the noble Art and gentle and healthy Pastime of froth blowing amongst Gentlemen of-leisure and ex-Soldiers". Running from 1924-1931 - a pub meeting, beer drinking group of jolly decent fellows that donated a lot of money in their day to needy causes and charities. They met regularly for "beer, beef & baccy" they were fined for "heinous sins" such as not wearing their cufflinks - dinners opened with the highest ranking member, the "Senior Blower", giving the command "Gentlemen, shoot your linen" at which point all members showed their shirt cuffs with their cufflinks intact. All fines and residual membership fees were sent to Sir Alfred and Lady Fripp for their "Wee Waifs" of London. It was a great idea!
