This is an elegant Edwardian Sterling Silver Belt Buckle. The buckle is shaped as an elongated oval with a scalloped edge. There is no pattern on the silver making it suitable to wear with many different styles of clothing.

The buckle was made in London by silversmiths Corke Brothers & Co and dates to 1906. Corke Brothers was founded in the late 1870s, becoming Corke Brothers & Co in 1899 and Cork & Apthorp during the 1920s & 1930s. They were bought out in 1938. The firm are best known for their silver items for personal use such as bookmarks, scent bottles and jars, brooches, vesta cases, buckles, purses and brushes.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 115 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The buckle is 10.5cm / 4.1ins high by 4.3cm / 1.7ins wide and weighs in at a respectable 27.4g / 0.97oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the front of the buckle, are nice and clear to read, with just the makers' mark being a little rubbed. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter l for 1906 and the distinctive CB & Co makers' mark for Corke Brothers & Co.
