Large Georgian Newcastle Silver Cream Jug c.1780
A fine Georgian silver baluster cream jug on stepped pedestal foot with gadrooned moulding to the foot edge and rim. The unusual scrolled strap handle has an acanthus leaf thumb rest. A plain polished body with a stylish sharp pleat to the front of the raised spout and a small monogram engraved to the front. Hallmarked for Newcastle, makers William Stalker & John Mitchison, no date letter but c.1780.
It measures 12.5cm (4 7/8") high, 12.1cm (4 3/4") spout to handle and 7cm (2 3/4") wide. It weighs 127g / 4.1ozt and has a sensible capacity of 150ml / 1/4pt.
In excellent condition with no damage or repairs, no dents and only minor handling wear. The marks are underneath and are nice and clear but the leopard head punch was obscured on punching. Christmas Posting we are posting up until Monday 23rd December!
