George III Silver & Gilt Cream Jug, London, 1805
Here we have a beautiful, top quality George III Sterling Silver Cream Jug with a Gilt Interior. The jug has an oval base sitting on four bun feet. The body has repousse decoration of scrolls and flowers below a band of key decoration and a gadrooned top rim. The cartouches on both sides are blank.
The jug was made in London in 1805 but unfortunately the makers' mark has been polished away over the course of time so we have not been able to identify the silversmith.
Condition is extremely good with no dings or dents and just the minimal superficial surface wear that has to be expected after nearly 220 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The cream jug is of a good size measuring 13.5cm / 5.3ins from lip to handle, 7.5cm / 2.9ins across the body and 11cm / 4.3ins in height. It weighs in at a very substantial 179.6g / 6.3oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, just below the lip of the jug, are quite rubbed but can still be deciphered apart from the makers' mark which is completely gone. They show the lion passant, very rubbed, for Sterling Silver, the crowned leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter K for 1805 and the George III duty mark.
Shipping in the UK is £11 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the cream jug.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
