Pretty 1916 Hallmarked SILVER 'Dance' Purse
A really lovely Solid Silver 'Dance' Purse hallmarked for Birmingham 1916 and maker's initials F.D.L.
Chain and finger ring are both also 925 silver and marked.
Used by fashionable young ladies of the day, these beautiful silver purses were used to hold dance cards, a few coins and other essentials, in the era of grand balls and other social occassions. The large ring slipped over your finger while you were whisked around the dance floor by a handsome partner!
This example is is very good antique condition, decorated with an attractive abstract foliate design. One side has the intricately engraved initials of the owner D & J. Who she was, and what pleasurable evenings she enjoyed, we can only guess.
A nice example which could continue to be used today. Would make a lovely gift or addition to a collection
