Pair Victorian Silver & Glass Salts, H.Bourne 1897

This is an elegant Pair of Victorian Cut Glass & Sterling Silver Open Salts. The salts are quaich shaped with round bowls and flat handles. The bowls have deep cut geometric decoration around the bottoms and line decoration above. The silver handles are pierced in a baroque style design.
The salts were made in Birmingham by silversmith Henry Bourne and date to 1897. Henry Bourne established his firm in Birmingham in 1871 and operated from premises in Ludgate Hill. They produced a wide range of good quality silver tableware and flatware. After Henry retired around 1899, the business was continued by his son, also Henry, until around 1910.
Condition is very good, with no chips or cracks in the glass, one little ding in the silver rim of one salt, no damage to the pierced sections and no significant salt corrosion, just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 125 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each salt is 10cm / 3.9ins from handle to handle, 5.3cm / 2.1ins across and 2.8cm / 1.1ins high. The pair together weigh 150.5g / 5.3oz.
The hallmarks, on the outsides of the silver rims, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter x for 1897 and the H B makers' mark for Henry Bourne.
